Using Blog in the Classrom.

Using a blog in the class room, sound is great, isn’t it?But, the question is “how”. Some teacher has their own blog but they don’t know to maximize the using of  blog to teach their student in the class room. There are many ways to maximize your blog to support your teaching activity. Here we go :

1. Autobiographical writing : student can use the blog as a journal  or  day-to-day activity . Teacher ask them to report their daily life or their excursions(Ind: Ijin Berlibur).

2. Book journaling : Ask them to write their thoughts, responses, and opinions to the teacher’s or other student’s post.

3. As an information board : Informing student of important event such as homework, exercises or what to bring to class, student can comment for clarification.

4. Creative writing : Students write posts as a paper work or poetrys and constructively critique by other students.

5. Digital Portfolio :Student can record or save their paper work by uploading their works (embed to http://www.scribd.com)

6. Tracking a student’s thinking and comment as they completed any quiz or assignment.

There are six ideas using a blog to maximize the teacher’s teaching activity. Do you have another idea or opinion about it? It is better if we discuss this issues. Thanks.

Ikhien.

  1. Welcome back..
I like the topic, I like the pictures. But most of all, I like the messages. Let’s discuss further…

  2. Well, i just do my job. Like the picture message above. I think and we all think it’s the time to maximize our blog as a teaching instruction device.
Refer to the hierarchy of thinking skill : from the lower, Remembering, Understanding, Applying, Analyzing, Evaluating and the higher is Creating. So, where do blog fit in? Let we see the higher thinking skill, it is “Creating”, the synonym of “Creating” are : Designing, Constructing, Planing, Producing, Devising and Making. The verb refer to that words are : Programming, Filming, Animating, BLOGGING, Publishing, etc.

Well Capten, i like to discuss it with you, further comment are waited.Thanks. I have to Jum’atan right now. See Ya!!

  3. he em…the cartoon is actually talking about ikhin himself in particular. But welcome again!
The keys to keep on posting is the willingness and the commitment, but ultimately knowing what to present.
Not knowing what to discuss is likely to be the most possible issue why instructors are not active. Another aspect is the pattern of taking course book such as ALC or AELC as the vehicle to ride on. Next is the constraints of not having specialty to discuss in particular language skills; most instructors teach integrated skills. Moreover, methodologically they are not acquainted to apply ICT in the teaching process. Lastly there is no particular recognition from the unit for those who have been imposing the ICT in their teaching process.
    So….
It is time to renovate the already concreted commitment by improving the ability and motivating self to perform better.
    InshaAlloh God speeds our will.
    Keep on..

  4. Well, in my opinion, the most important thing is improving the attitude towards computer first. I believe if an instructor has positive attitude, he/ she will find what to present.

Starting is the hardest one. I myself do not like writing and cannot write as beatiful as others hehe. But should we create interesting stories to enhance our students’ language ability? It is not a must. I do not think that we have to be a good author to have blog.

Although teaching by using those books is quite comfortable, sometimes we get bored and try to find other materials, right? How? We can search some new interesting ones from internet. The materials can be though directly in the class as well as written in our blogs. In addition, do you think ALL of the students understand 100% what we explain in the class. Mostly some of them will ask further questions. Why don’t we put the explaination in our blog so that we do not have to explain the same things to every confusing students. Safe our energy! Besides, if the students still get confused, we are learning how to make clearer explaination.

If you think no reader will get benefit from your blog (which is the wrong way of thinking!), please be sure that you will improve yourself!

  5. Oh, BTW, could you fix the link to Erko’s blog? He wrote some interesting topics. Ths.

  6. I agree with u Capten. How we can ask the student for IT minded but the teacher them self not IT minded at all. By using internet as a teaching media, we are put the student at the edge of the world not a bird at the cage. Adventure spirit needed!

  7. It takes a long process to change someones’ habit, Ikhien..
Let’s just practice, if the others see the benefit and the enjoyment, hopefully then everybody will be influenced, although ‘ a little bit slowly hehehe, OK. Good luck.

  8. agreed Sir..
i think it’s digital time.. as a student i am agree with the “IT minded” one.. so if we don’t want to left behind with the other honestly that we have change our mind.. like our KASAU said that “No Change No Future”.. so it’s time to be an “IT minded”.. because it is not the age of “Belanda masih jauh”.. :)
